Entertainment

North Capitol Hill is a vibrant and lively area of Denver, offering a variety of entertainment options that cater to diverse interests.

For a fun family outing, visit the Denver Zoo for educational programs, immersive exhibits, and special events, like Summer Adult Night, throughout the year. They even offer a handful of free days during the Summer. 

City Park, spanning over 300 acres, offers walking and jogging paths, a public golf course, tennis courts, playgrounds, soccer fields and two lakes. Not only is it a picturesque spot for a relaxing picnic, but during the summer, you can also enjoy 10 weeks of free Sunday concerts at City Park Jazz.

At the center of Denver’s booming music scene are the historic Fillmore Auditorium and Ogden Theater. Bordering the Capitol Hill neighborhood and the Colfax corridor, the Fillmore and the Ogden are both centrally located for a fun night out.

Touted as Restaurant Row, 17th street, which runs through the center of Uptown, is known for its culinary scene, featuring a variety of restaurants, eateries, bars and cafes.

For a throwback diner experience, check out Steuben’s, serving up nostalgic food that mom used to make like meatloaf, deviled eggs, and even chicken pot pie on Sundays. And, they’re open until 11:00 pm most nights for those who enjoy dining late at night.

Denver foodies adore this iconic, hole-in-the-wall eatery known for its flavorful and generously portioned dishes. It’s so good, in fact, Westword named it as one of its 100 favorite restaurants in 2024. Stop by to taste their “mind-blowing” bourbon chicken.

Mushroom lovers and Denver’s psychedelic activist community unite at the Plant Magic Cafe in Uptown. This unique cafe serves up adaptogenic lattes and other plant-based drinks, and hosts events focused on the mind, body and soul.

For a delicious, made-from-scratch meal, visit OneFold. This small but mighty restaurant offers epic portions. Try the congee or bacon fried rice.

Groceries

While North Capitol Hill is more known for its dining options, residents here have access to both conventional grocery stores as well as specialty and organic markets. 

Considered a Denver treasure, Marczyk’s Fine Foods is the place to go for high quality meats, cheeses, and seafood. This charming neighborhood grocery store has a butcher, a deli for handmade sandwiches, and an in-house bakery offering made-from-scratch breads and treats.

Safeway, on East 20th Avenue, is a convenient and reliable supermarket for all your grocery needs.

Natural Grocers, located on N Washington Street, is the grocery store of choice for organic and natural products and supplements. 

Schools

Few schools call the North Capitol Hill area home. Luckily, the surrounding neighborhoods have many schools for residents who live in this area of Denver.

Downtown Denver Expeditionary School is an EL public charter school for grades K-5 in the northwest area of North Capitol Hill. EL schools encourage students to critically think, problem solve and to garner a sense of responsibility through hands-on, real-world explorations known as “expeditions.” 

Morey Middle School, a 100 year old school, is situated in the heart of Capitol Hill. Morey’s mission is to deliver personalized and supportive education tailored to each student’s needs, emphasizing social justice and fostering strong connections within the local community.

Located just east of the North Capitol Hill neighborhood is East High School, the oldest high school in Denver, which is well known for its strong academic and athletic programs. 

Shopping

Although North Capitol Hill isn’t brimming with retail options, you can still find a few gems. Plus, all of the surrounding neighborhoods offer great shopping.
